Ripple is expanding its institutional footprint in South Korea. Meritz Securities, one of the country’s major securities firms, has entered into a strategic partnership with Ripple to explore digital asset custody, tokenization and blockchain-based financial infrastructure.
Meritz Securities announced on October 7, 2026 that it is working with Ripple to examine how institutional digital asset infrastructure could be integrated into South Korea’s capital markets.
The agreement was signed on October 1 at Meritz Securities’ headquarters in Seoul’s Yeouido financial district. Ripple President Monica Long and Meritz Securities CEO Jang Won-jae were among those attending the signing.
Ripple Custody and Tokenization in Focus
The partnership focuses primarily on Ripple Custody and Ripple’s infrastructure for the tokenization of assets.
Ripple Custody is designed for institutional clients that need secure infrastructure for storing and managing digital assets. At the same time, both companies are exploring how tokenized financial products could potentially be used within South Korea’s capital markets.
Meritz Securities is also looking at a broader range of digital asset opportunities, including:
- spot digital asset ETFs
- tokenized securities
- fractional investment products
- digital asset trading platforms
- won-denominated stablecoins
At this stage, however, the partnership remains exploratory. No specific product launch has been confirmed.
Why South Korea Matters for Ripple
South Korea is one of the world’s most active digital asset markets, and XRP has traditionally enjoyed strong interest among Korean investors.
On October 7, XRP temporarily recorded around $111.4 million in 24-hour trading volume on Upbit, compared with approximately $104.7 million for Bitcoin at the same point in time.
For Ripple, South Korea therefore combines several important factors: a highly active crypto market, major financial institutions and growing demand for regulated digital financial products.
The Meritz Securities partnership shows that Ripple is increasingly targeting institutional use cases in Asia.
Ripple Is Building an Institutional Presence in South Korea
The Meritz partnership is not an isolated development.
Ripple has already expanded its activities in South Korea through various initiatives related to cross-border payments, digital assets and tokenized financial infrastructure.
This suggests that Ripple’s strategy in South Korea is moving beyond traditional cryptocurrency payments and increasingly toward institutional financial infrastructure.
Tokenization Could Become a Major Growth Market
Tokenization is one of the most important trends in the transformation of global financial markets.
Traditional assets such as stocks, bonds, funds and other financial instruments can be represented digitally on blockchain infrastructure. This could potentially improve settlement efficiency, transparency and asset management.
South Korea is currently developing a regulatory framework for tokenized securities, which could create a clearer legal foundation for blockchain-based financial products in the country.
For Ripple, this is strategically important because the company is increasingly positioning itself as a provider of institutional blockchain and digital asset infrastructure.
For a broader overview of how the XRP Ledger is evolving toward institutional financial infrastructure, see our XRP Ledger Institutional Finance Map 2026.
The technical foundation behind this expansion also matters: the recent XRP Ledger 3.4.1 security update showed how XRPL is being hardened as the network moves toward more complex institutional applications.
What Does This Mean for XRP?
For XRP investors, the key question is whether the Meritz Securities partnership will directly involve XRP.
At the moment, the answer is clear:
There is no confirmation that Meritz Securities will use XRP.
There is also no confirmed announcement that the XRP Ledger or RLUSD will be part of a specific Meritz product.
The publicly available information currently focuses on Ripple Custody and Ripple’s tokenization infrastructure.
However, the broader development remains relevant to the XRP ecosystem.
The more Ripple succeeds in establishing its technology among banks, brokers and institutional financial companies, the larger the potential ecosystem around Ripple infrastructure becomes.
If future applications eventually use the XRP Ledger, XRP or RLUSD, partnerships like this one could become increasingly important.
For now, however, it would be premature to describe the Meritz agreement as direct XRP adoption.
South Korea Is Becoming Increasingly Important for Ripple
The timing is especially interesting.
South Korea recently received renewed attention from the XRP community through XRP Seoul 2026, where topics such as institutional blockchain infrastructure, privacy, artificial intelligence and the future development of the XRP Ledger were discussed.
The Meritz Securities partnership adds another institutional dimension to Ripple’s growing presence in the country.
South Korea could therefore become an increasingly important Asian market for digital asset custody, tokenization and regulated blockchain infrastructure.

Conclusion
The partnership between Ripple and Meritz Securities is significant because it represents another step toward integrating blockchain technology into traditional capital markets.
Meritz is not simply examining a single cryptocurrency product. The company is looking at a broader range of possibilities, including custody, tokenization, ETFs, stablecoins and digital securities.
There is currently no confirmation that XRP, RLUSD or the XRP Ledger will be directly used. Nevertheless, the partnership shows how strongly Ripple is working to establish itself as an infrastructure provider for institutional digital finance.
If South Korea continues to develop its regulatory framework for tokenized securities and digital assets, the cooperation between Ripple and Meritz Securities could become increasingly important.
For XRP, the key point is clear: Ripple continues to expand its institutional footprint — and South Korea is becoming an increasingly important market.
